Add More Locks To Your Home
Adding additional security in the form of locks and security devices is never a bad thing and can be very cost effective, especially if you have older doors and windows. Security rapidly improves each year as manufacturers bring out newer and more secure products and standards are always updated in line with the current threat.
At Mr Lock Doc we offer a service where we can audit the locks fitted to your existing doors and windows and then offer advice on fitting additional and extra locks. Fitting additional locks and newer style handles for additional security is easy and can prove to be a real saving on replacing doors or windows.
Ensuring you have adequate locks is a crucial line of defence in keeping your property secure, as it’s a fact that 30% of burglaries occur either through a back door or through a poorly secured window.
Additional Window Locks
Window Locks are a great way of adding additional security to your property. They are not expensive and are easy to fit and can be fitted to all styles of window. You must ensure you use the locks and that you remove any keys and keep them safe for this style of security to work effectively.
Windows Locks have an approved British Standard – BS7950 – and at Mr Lock Doc we can of course fit window locks that adhere to these guidelines.
Adding Door Chains
Adding a door chain allows for restricted opening while you decide whether to let the person at the door in. You can choose whether to leave the chain on or take it off, once you are certain you can trust whoever is at the door. They are available in a range of fitments and finishes to suit your door and are a great security enhancement.
Additional Mortice Bolts
Fitting Mortice Bolts, sometimes known as rack bolts, to both front and back doors, is a very effective security measure. Mortice bolts are similar to mortice locks, but instead of having a latch, they have a bolt similar to a standard door bolt which is internal to the door frame. They are heavily reinforced and as they are inside the door, cannot be removed easily when a door is closed. They are locked and unlocked with a key.
Mr Lock Doc advises to fit two of these to each door, one at the bottom and one at the top for enhanced security. Many insurance companies will now require this in any policy conditions.
Adding BS3621 Mortice Deadlocks
Again a condition of most current insurance policies and also a Home Office recommendation, it is advised to fit a 5-Lever Mortice Deadlock to all your external doors. These are approved to BS3621:2004 and are a very good form of additional security.

Usually you don’t give additional security to these types of buildings a second thought. It is extremely important to have additional security on sheds and garages for several reasons, the main ones being theft of a vehicle, theft of expensive tools and garden equipment, gaining entry into a property via a garage which has an internal door and also not least, giving easy access to tools burglars can use to break into your property.
